Although I’m in Europe for the summer, I live in Los Angeles most of the year. My two most recent books are set there because it’s a fascinating city. Today on by blog is Cynthia Sax, author of The Seen Trilogy, soon to be released from Avon’s Impulse imprint. She’s here to talk about Los Angeles as the location for her upcoming books.
Take it away, Cynthia:
Have you ever read an erotic romance and thought “This could happen anywhere, in any big city, small town, or rural setting?”
He Watches Me isn’t that type of erotic romance. (grins) My first release with Avon Impulse could only be set in one place – Los Angeles.
La la land is known for being the home of models and actresses, the beautiful people. When I think of an L.A. woman, blonde hair, a perfect tan, and generous breasts come to mind.
Anna doesn’t have blonde hair, a perfect tan, or generous breasts. She’s pale-skinned with brown hair and brown eyes and sports a very flat chest. She considers herself plain and dresses in overly large clothes, emphasizing that first impression.
Anna moves to L.A. to be invisible. By surrounding herself with beautiful people, she ensures no one looks at her. Yes, she secretly yearns to be seen and that’s why she indulges in private exhibitionism, but her past has taught her it is safer to be publicly ignored.
Blaine, the billionaire hero, also disappears in Los Angeles. Organizations in L.A. are accustomed to keeping personal information about high profile individuals private. Limousines, Blaine’s preferred means of transportation, are common. The exclusive neighborhood he lives in is filled with movie stars and other glamorous people, people far more interesting than a business-focused high tech billionaire. In a city filled with fascinating faces, he isn’t media worthy.
But being completely private has its drawbacks. Blaine is lonely and one of the challenges he faces is his appreciation for a more natural, understated beauty in a city known for cosmetic surgery and body modifications. His backyard is filled with ground cover native to L.A. and it is in this secluded backyard that he finds Anna, his fence-jumping skinny dipper.
If Anna and Blaine had met in New York, would their romance have changed? Yes, certainly. They’d be different people, in that city for different reasons, at different stages in their lives. Anna might not have taken off her clothes and dived into Blaine’s crystal clear pool, revealing a part of herself she keeps hidden from everyone else, a part that enthralls Blaine.
When you read an erotic romance, does location matter for you? What types of locations do you prefer? Have you been to or lived in LA?
He Watches Me
She desires to be seen. He wants to watch.
Anna Sampson has a naughty secret. Every night, she slips into her neighbor’s yard and swims naked in his pool. She fantasizes that the dynamic young billionaire watches her nightly nude aquatics, his brilliant green eyes gleaming with lust.
She discovers this isn’t pure fantasy. Gabriel Blaine has been watching her via his security cameras, and now that he has returned to L.A., he doesn’t plan to stop. That’s all he wants—to watch. Anna knows she shouldn’t allow him and she certainly shouldn’t want more, but she craves Blaine’s attention, needing his gaze fixed on her body.
Cynthia Sax lives in a world filled with magic and romance. Although her heroes may not always say, “I love you”, they will do anything for the women they adore. They live passionately. They play hard. They love the same women forever.
